Online Resources
Trans Youth of Kansas is one of several wonderful resources for the parents of
transgender offspring to have appeared on the internet in recent years. While TYK strives to be of support primarily for the kids in Kansas, we also support all of those websites which came before, and those which will follow. What follows here will include links to as many of the other websites as we can find, along with brief descriptions of their contents.
The most prominent support group today is Trans Youth Family Allies (TYFA). Founded by moms of trans kids, TYFA leads the way for individual parents to help their children grow into happy, well-adjusted adults. Their website includes information about a secure forum in which parents from around the country share their experience and knowledge with other parents.
TransKids Purple Rainbow Foundation is "Dedicated to funding research and education about transgender issues to build a brighter future for all TransKids.
Our children aren't pink or blue - but rather, various shades of purple." The site includes a helpful "FAQ" section in which many of parents' often-asked questions are addressed.
A recent arrival to the web is TransActive, founded by Jenn Burleton. Jenn's focus is on getting the trans youth, themselves, involved by "...[making] use of the experiences of those who had been trans children and youth themselves."
